Cancer Awareness Day at Finnegan's Pharmacy

We were delighted to welcome a local cancer support organisation into the pharmacy for a Cancer Awareness Day. It was wonderfully attended, and it was clear just how valued this kind of event is for the community.
Over the course of the day, our team spoke with 30 visitors, with conversations covering a wide range of topics:
Skin cancer concerns, including education on being SunSmart (the 5 S's), the importance of checking your skin regularly, and not being afraid to get anything unusual checked as soon as possible. Sunbeds also came up in conversation a number of times.
Breast cancer awareness, with guidance on the correct way to check your breasts for new lumps or changes once a month.
Prostate health, encouraging men over 50 to get a PSA test once a year, or to see their GP as soon as possible if they notice any new urinary symptoms.
Smoking and vaping, and the associated lung cancer risks.
Alcohol intake, including what's considered binge drinking.
Bowel cancer concerns, raised by a number of visitors on the day.
Signposting to local supports available for people going through a cancer diagnosis or treatment.
All in all, it was a great day, and one we're hoping to make a regular fixture — we're looking at bringing the team back for the same week next year.
If you have any concerns about your health, however big or small, our pharmacy team is always here to listen and point you in the right direction.
